Hey there, here’s the second issue of Your American English Magazine. One year just passed and it finally appeared.
What are you going to find in this issue? Well, we have the story of the issue, Ski and Skate, to start with. The story is full of useful vocabulary and grammar explained alongside. As this magazine is not published on a regular basis (which I hope will change sooner or later), I think this column should be called Story of the Issue rather than Story of the Month.
In the Thematic Vocabulary column we’ll be talking about winter sports. We’ll primarily have a look at skiing, skating and sledding disciplines, as well as some minor ones.
In the Grammar column we’ll be talking about morphemes. What are morphemes and how do we classify them? If terms like this sound scary to you, this is definitely an article you should familiarize yourself with.
In the USA column we’ll be talking about the US national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. We’ll have a look at the history of the song and then we’ll analyze the lyrics verse by verse.
In the Technical English column, we’ll have a look at chemical elements. We’ll list them all along with the pronunciation of each and every one.
The last column of this issue is going to be huge. By huge I mean its physical size. We’re going to have a look at idioms with body parts, lots of them, literally hundreds. All main parts of the body are going to be covered, from head to toe. Actually, this article could be turned into a book of its own, which maybe I will consider in the future.
As a reminder, here are the characters that you will see in the magazine. These are 3D models that I made in Blender. You will see them often in all the columns of the magazine. There will be more, but for now there are: Frieda, her husband Borg and their kids, Ike, Kev and Bree.
