The adjective TORPID, pronounced /ˈtoɚpəd/, means having or showing very little energy or movement, not active, numb, very slow in functioning or acting:

Most bats spend their winters in a torpid state.

He has a torpid mind, but eventually he will get your joke, I’m sure.

These drugs always make me torpid for several hours.

The alligator looked dead, but it was just torpid to save energy.

During the first couple years after the war the economy was rather torpid.
