The expression IT HIT ME is used when you realize something, if something becomes suddenly clear to you. Naturally, you can use it in all possible variations with different persons, like IT HIT US, IT HIT HER, and so on. Here are some examples:

When I learned that she was the daughter of our boss, it hit me why she got this job in our company despite being so lame.

And that’s when it hit me that I was doing something wrong.

The doctor wanted to speak to my wife and then it hit me that I was dying.

And then it hit me that she had been lying to me all the time.

You can also use a different subject, not just IT. Here are some examples:

I was going to give up when the solution hit me.

The importance of being invited by the prime minister hasn’t really hit me yet.
