Today we’ll be talking about attributive nouns.

Attributive nouns, also known as noun adjuncts, are nouns that are used before other nouns, which they modify. Together with the noun that they modify, they form compound nouns.

Here are some examples. In each of them the attributive noun is in red.

a winter day

a mountain range

the forest floor

church bells

cloud cover

a spruce tree
