Today we’ll learn some vocabulary related to the beach.
Look at this beautiful sand castle. It must have taken really long to build it.
You can see all sorts of beachwear on a beach. Women wear bikinis or swimsuits and men wear swimming trunks.
It was early in the morning. There was no one on the pier. Our three sailboats were already there, waiting for us to be sailed.
Both Jenny and her daughter were wearing sun hats. Little Emma was going to dig a hole and use her pail to pour sea water into it.
When I saw the sailboarder on his sailboard I realized how much fun sailboarding is.
Here’s the vocabulary summary:
sand castle | a small model of a castle or other building that is made with wet sand on a beach |
beachwear | clothing made to be worn at the beach |
bikini | a piece of clothing in two parts that a girl or woman wears for swimming or for lying in the sun and that does not cover much of the body |
swimsuit / bathing suit | special clothing that women and girls wear for swimming |
swimming trunks / trunks | special shorts that men and boys wear for swimming |
pier | a structure that goes out from a shore into the water |
sailboat | a boat that has a sail |
sun hat | a hat that you wear to protect your head and neck from the sun |
pail | a round container that is open at the top and usually has a handle |
sailboard | a flat board that has a sail and that you stand on to ride over the surface of water, a board that is used for windsurfing |
