The adjective ARID, pronounced /ˈerəd/, means very dry, having very little rain or water:

You won’t find this species in more arid regions farther to the south.

The inhabitants of the arid zones tend to move to areas where there is more rain.

It’s an arid desert, so make sure you take enough water with you.

Our problem is increasingly arid climate in all corners of the globe.

In figurative sense it also means lacking in interest and life:

This was the most arid book I ever read.

A life without love is arid.

The somewhat arid character in the book isn’t a good example for young people.
